Goodale State Park (SC11 – Camden)

On the first day of spring, we took the opportunity to drive over to Camden to visit Goodale State Park. Tiffany and I had twice visited here years ago, once to go geocaching (when we were first dating in 2006) and once to go canoeing (when we were engaged in 2010). Now we return with two kids in tow.

The cypress trees had just started showing some signs of life.

Goodale is a relatively small park built around a cypress swamp. With the weather getting warmer, we had our eyes out for snakes and ‘gators, but we didn’t see any. We explored some, walked around the lake a little bit, and found a geocache. What surprised us the most was the little creek just below the lake. It seemed like a mountain stream, but it had cypress knees on the banks.

It was a quick visit, but I know Teagan would enjoy canoeing if we came back without Sage (or returned when she was older). I hope that they’re able to make some renovations to the playground equipment and main buildings, as they were somewhat run-down; however, don’t let that detract from the natural beauty here.

Below see some other pictures from our visit, and don’t miss the last three (two from our original visit in the fall of 2006, and the other of Tiffany in a canoe in 2010).
