After our visit to H. Cooper Black, we drove just a few minutes down the road to Cheraw State Park for our second park of four for the day. Tiffany and I had been to this park yeeeeears ago (2006) while geocaching. We arrived close to sunset, hiked one of the trails out to a cypress swamp area, found the geocache, potentially hearing a beaver out in the water and a gator slither into the water close to where I was, then ended up hiking back in the dark.

We hoped for a much less eventful day today.
When we arrived, there were many people out on this beautiful Saturday picnicking, swimming, and kayaking. This would be a great place to spend the day, I feel. With our time limited, we headed straight for the boardwalk.

On the boardwalk, Teagan didn’t waste any time finding wildlife. The most popular animal we saw were the baby turtles, just about as big as a sand dollar. No sightings of snakes or gators, though one gentleman reported that he had seen deer at the water’s edge on a previous visit. Sage greatly enjoyed being pushed in what felt like her carriage.

We were to eat a picnic lunch here. I took charge of packing the food, and I was sure that I had grabbed everything. Snacks? Check. Water bottles? Check. Peanut butter? Check. Jelly? Check. Bread?
Bread?
Um…not check.
So…yeah, we had PB&J improv picnic. Tiffany had the idea of a peanut butter fondue. So, we dipped whatever we felt like dipping into the peanut butter to get our protein. Cheese stick, strawberry, chips, Rice Krispies treat…nothing was off limits. Hey, it all turned out okay, and it was a great lesson in thankfulness.

The girls enjoyed some time on the playground before we packed up for our drive over to the Lancaster area to meet up with friends. I picked this route so that Sage would sleep on this 1-1.5 hour drive…but she didn’t. Oh well!
Next stop, Andrew Jackson State Park.
