This is the first of our park visits that we did without kids involved. We will hopefully be back here in the future with them, as there’s a lot that they should see here. Why did we come without kids? Well, the long and short of it is that Tiffany planned a surprise trip forContinue reading “Independence National Historical Park (NP028 – Philadelphia, PA)”

Jimmy Carter National Historical Park (NP027 – Plains, GA)
Over Christmas Break, the Beavers had planned a trip down to Tallahassee with Tiffany’s mom. We had tentatively planned to drive through Plains on our way back, but those plans were cemented upon the news breaking of Pres. Carter’s death while we were in Florida. I’ll ultimately share about our trip to Plains, but first,Continue reading “Jimmy Carter National Historical Park (NP027 – Plains, GA)”
Castillo de San Marcos National Monument (NP026 – St. Augustine, FL)
After a brief visit to Fort Matanzas and lunch, the Beavers forged our way through the traffic into the heart of downtown Saint Augustine. After being in more secluded areas, the crowds were a definite change of pace. (I’m personally not a fan.) The ranger at the castillo (Spanish for ‘castle’, but this structure isContinue reading “Castillo de San Marcos National Monument (NP026 – St. Augustine, FL)”
Fort Matanzas National Monument (NP025 – St. Augustine, FL)
The Beavers enjoyed one last breakfast at the Kingsland Hampton Inn before packing up and heading down the road. After visiting Cumberland Island yesterday, our goal today was to explore the historical sites in Saint Augustine. Our first stop was Fort Matanzas National Monument. If you read about our visit to Fort Caroline, you’ll rememberContinue reading “Fort Matanzas National Monument (NP025 – St. Augustine, FL)”
Cumberland Island National Seashore (NP024 – St. Marys, GA)
This is Part 5 of our Thanksgiving adventures. For Part 4, click here. What a day of adventures we had. We only spent about 30 minutes total in the car today; however, we spent an hour and a half in a boat, and the rest of the time wandering around. We set out after aContinue reading “Cumberland Island National Seashore (NP024 – St. Marys, GA)”
Fort Caroline National Memorial (NP023 – Jacksonville, FL)
After visiting a few sites in Timucuan Ecological and Historic Preserve, we visited two sites at Fort Caroline. Fort Caroline tells the story of the brief French settlement in the second half of the 1500s. As Europe raced to stake their claim in the New World, Spain and France butted heads a couple of times.Continue reading “Fort Caroline National Memorial (NP023 – Jacksonville, FL)”
Timucuan Ecological and Historic Preserve (NP022 – Jacksonville, FL)
Part 3 of our Florida/Georgia trip. For Part 2, click here. After a night of rest and a delicious, hot breakfast at the Hampton Inn in Kingsland, GA, we hopped down I-95 into Florida. It was both of our girls’ first time in Florida, and the first time in over a decade for either TiffanyContinue reading “Timucuan Ecological and Historic Preserve (NP022 – Jacksonville, FL)”
Fort Frederica National Monument (NP021 – St. Simons Island, GA)
After enjoying a beautiful day at Fort Pulaski, we arrived at Fort Frederica in the late afternoon. This is an 18th-century era fort located on the north part of St. Simons Island, outside of Brunswick. I was excited to visit here due to the history behind it, and I hope Teagan will take some ofContinue reading “Fort Frederica National Monument (NP021 – St. Simons Island, GA)”
Fort Pulaski National Monument (NP020 – Cockspur Island, GA)
The Beavers got back in the park-visiting spirit after another break away, mostly due to a 2.5-week trip we took this summer to Chile. We had intended on visiting several national parks while we were there, but the weather prevented us from visiting any of them. Regardless, we had a great visit. Teagan is nowContinue reading “Fort Pulaski National Monument (NP020 – Cockspur Island, GA)”
Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park (NP019 – Chickamauga, GA / Chattanooga, TN)
After a long hiatus away from visiting parks, the Beavers finally got a chance to take a day trip up to the Chattanooga area over Spring Break. Tiffany’s mom Dawn (whom we call DD) was also able to join us. We had been in Atlanta (where DD lives) for Easter, and then we set outContinue reading “Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park (NP019 – Chickamauga, GA / Chattanooga, TN)”
