Here we are at the southernmost state park in South Carolina, located geographically between Hilton Head Island and Edisto Island. To get here, you drive through Beaufort, across St. Helena Island, and onto Hunting Island. This also represents our final state park in our journey to become Ultimate Outsiders. Our first day here, we tookContinue reading “Hunting Island State Park (SC47 – Hunting Island)”

Lake Warren State Park (SC46 – Hampton)
If you’ve read enough of my posts, you will have sorted out that I like to understand why places are named what they are. Naturally, I asked myself this question when researching Lake Warren. What I found couldn’t have been more timely. I realized that Lake Warren’s full name is Lake George Warren. Who wasContinue reading “Lake Warren State Park (SC46 – Hampton)”
Battle of Rivers Bridge State Historic Site (SC45 – Ehrhardt)
And thus it begins. The final trip to help the Beavers become Ultimate Outsiders, visiting all 47 of the state parks in South Carolina. Originally, this was one of the parks that made me attuned to the wide variety that the state parks in South Carolina provided. Before we started this venture 20 months ago,Continue reading “Battle of Rivers Bridge State Historic Site (SC45 – Ehrhardt)”
Baker Creek State Park (SC44 – McCormick)
We left soggy Hickory Knob State Resort Park and made the quick drive over to Baker Creek State Park for our final park in this area. We knew this would be a quick visit given the hour (stomachs were beginning to growl) and the weather (the only geocache we might have looked for was atContinue reading “Baker Creek State Park (SC44 – McCormick)”
Hickory Knob State Resort Park (SC43 – McCormick)
After leaving Calhoun Falls State Park on Lake Russell, the Beavers headed down the road into McCormick County, where two final state parks along Lake Thurmond awaited. The first was a state park unlike any we had ever seen. Hickory Knob State Resort Park is home to a golf course, motel rooms, a swimming pool,Continue reading “Hickory Knob State Resort Park (SC43 – McCormick)”
Calhoun Falls State Park (SC42 – Calhoun Falls)
The Beaver crew + Papa and Yaya (my dad and stepmom) journeyed south on a cool, overcast Sunday morning. So far this weekend, we had already hit one park on Lake Thurmond and two parks on Lake Hartwell. Now, it was time to visit a state park on yet another lake on the SC/GA border.Continue reading “Calhoun Falls State Park (SC42 – Calhoun Falls)”
Sadlers Creek State Park (SC41 – Anderson)
(FYI, I start this post with a few paragraphs of my memories. But if you don’t want to take a trip down Memory Lane with me, scroll down to right before the set of pictures where I describe our visit today. If I may successfully clickbait you…You’ll Never Guess What We Saw!) After leaving LakeContinue reading “Sadlers Creek State Park (SC41 – Anderson)”
Lake Hartwell State Park (SC40 – Fair Play)
The Beavers were tired after driving up from Columbia, visiting Hamilton Branch State Park along Lake Thurmond on the way up to visit my dad and stepmom, with the goal of visiting the six state parks along the lakes along the SC/Georgia border. We got up and enjoyed a peaceful morning on Lake Secession, butContinue reading “Lake Hartwell State Park (SC40 – Fair Play)”
Hamilton Branch State Park (SC39 – Plum Branch)
The Beavers set out for another weekend of state park fun. This time, our eyes were on the lakes region along the Savannah River. My (Benjamin’s) dad and stepmom live on a small lake in Abbeville County (Lake Secession, probably the most South Carolina name possible for a lake). With their boat, we are ableContinue reading “Hamilton Branch State Park (SC39 – Plum Branch)”
Oconee Station State Historic Site (SC38 – Walhalla)
Having learned a lot about the Cherokee in the area at the Jocassee Gorges Visitors Center at Keowee-Toxaway State Park, we hopped back on Highway 11 towards Walhalla and turned off at Oconee Station. The two major draws to the park are the 60-foot-tall Station Cove Falls and the two historic buildings on the property.Continue reading “Oconee Station State Historic Site (SC38 – Walhalla)”
